Mackay/Isaac Destination Tourism Plan Review – 2017 – 2022
DR Tourism assisted the team at Mackay Tourism Limited to review the region’s Destination Tourism Plan, and to develop and updated plan providing a number of actions and recommendations, shaping the strategic direction for tourism in the Mackay/Isaac region leading to the year 2022.
This project entailed extensive levels of consultation with a number of stakeholders, including Mackay Tourism, the Mackay and Isaac Regional Councils and key industry stakeholders.
Award’s Season Success
Congratulations to all the winners and tourism operators involved in the variety of award ceremonies that have taken place at a local, state and national level in recent times! Client of DR Tourism, Tasman Venture collected Gold for the Marine Based Tourism Category at the Fraser Coast Business and Tourism Awards, and was also recently recognised as Australia’s ‘Best Wildlife Experience’ is a recent public voting competition managed by Experience OZ!
Congratulations also to the Hervey Bay Visitor Information Centre for being awarded Bronze for Visitor Information Services at the 2017 Queensland Tourism Awards.
Fraser Coast Trade Mentoring Program 2017/18
DR Tourism is delighted to be assisting Fraser Coast Tourism & Events to deliver the Fraser Coast Trade Mentoring Program for 2017/18. This exciting program will see 4 Fraser Coast operators being mentored in a one on one capacity over the next 4 months, culminating in their ‘graduation’ at the 2018 Australian Tourism Exchange!
The operators involved in this year’s program includes Oceans Resort and Spa, the Hervey Bay Dive Centre, Hervey Bay Eco Marine Tours and Fraser Dingo 4WD Hire.
Mackay Trade Mentoring Program 2017/18
DR Tourism is also faciliating the Mackay Trade Mentoring Program in partnership with Mackay Tourism Limited for the second year running. This program also focuses on one on one mentoring, and graduates of the program will be attending the 2018 Australian Tourism Exchange being held in Adelaide.
The operators involved in this program include Regional Air, Barracrab Caravan Park, Coral Cay Resort, Ocean International and the Mackay Resort Motel.
Tourism Noosa GRIP Program
Tourism Noosa’s Global Ready Industry Program has officially commenced with a full day industry workshop, and DR Tourism is delighted to be involved in this program for a second year running through the delivery of a one on one mentoring program for several Tourism Noosa members (tourism operators).
‘Graduates’ of the Tourism Noosa GRIP Program will attend the Australian Tourism Exchange trade show in Adelaide next year, where they will meet with a number of key trade partners from all over the world.
Corroboree West 2017
DR Tourism attended the Corroboree West event on the Gold Coast in October 2017 on behalf of our clients. As a part of this event, Danielle met with close to 300 agents from key western hemisphere markets, including the United Kingdom and Northern Europe, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, North America and South America.
2018 will be a big year for DR Tourism on the trade show front, with the team attending the Australian Tourism Exchange event in Adelaide, the Australian Marketplace event held in Los Angeles, Queensland on Tour North America and a dedicated sales training day spent at Viator’s head quarters in Los Vegas!
Tasman Venture’s Remote Fraser Island Tour
The team at Tasman Venture continue to run their Remote Fraser Island tour which is now a year round product – catering for small groups of a maximum 24 passengers. This full day tour explores the isolated, western coastline of Fraser Island, accessing parts of the island that only Tasman Venture is permitted to access.
This tour is a full day trip departing from Hervey Bay, and includes morning and afternoon tea, a full buffet lunch and courtesy pick up and drop off from Hervey Bay based accommodation.

Summer Cruises courtesy of Blue Dolphin Marine Tours!
Blue Dolphin Marine Tours provides a relaxing, personalised, small group touring experience exploring the Great Sandy Strait, and spotting dolphins, turtles and the occasional dugong. Departing from Hervey Bay, Blue Dolphin’s catamaran vessel caters for a maximum of 24 passengers and offers both the Fraser Island Eco Sailing Adventure (half day tour) and the very popular Champagne Sunset Sail, taking in the sights of the Great Sandy Strait and the Urangan Pier.

We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting new initiative that provides tailor made accredited and non accredited courses and workshops focused on developing leadership capability in the tourism sector across Australia. We are currently calling for enrolments for the Tourism Leader’s program which starts on the 15th September 2017.
